This is an indispensable piece of equipment for “knights”

Hello everyone, while Breitling had already undertaken a comprehensive upgrade of its four iconic classic car-themed Toptime chronographs back in March this year, there was a lingering sense that something was missing. It wasn’t until three months later that Breitling finally filled the gap. The final two additions to the Toptime series are the newly upgraded Triumph and the Australian motorcycle apparel brand Deus Ex Machina themed watches. With this, the entire Toptime series now proudly incorporates the B01 movement.

Among the six new chronographs in the current Toptime series, the Triumph B01 not only stands out as my personal favorite but also the one I find most worthwhile to acquire. Firstly, among these six watches, only Triumph and Shelby, representing the fastest among the four car-themed models, feature dual dials. This rarity makes the Triumph Toptime with dual dials particularly special. In comparison to Shelby, the Triumph’s dial is not only refreshingly simple but also serves as a breath of fresh air within the Toptime collection. Its distinctive ice blue and black color scheme further accentuates its uniqueness, making it a standout feature.

In the current landscape, the ice blue dial has emerged as one of the most sought-after choices, surpassing even the popularity of green and salmon dials. According to prevailing trends, the ice blue dial represents the epitome of elegance and sophistication. Triumph’s utilization of the ice blue plate draws inspiration from the 1951 Thunderbird 6T motorcycle by Triumph and Breitling’s Toptime 815 ice blue plate chronograph from the 1970s, aligning perfectly with contemporary watch preferences. Even if trends evolve, ice blue remains a timeless classic color in the world of watches. Beyond its classic appeal, this ice blue plate seamlessly incorporates the bow tie pattern introduced by Toptime in the 1960s through metal wire drawing technology, often referred to as the “Zorro” plate. The amalgamation of these two distinct ice blue textures, coupled with the iconic Triumph triangular badge logo at 6 o’clock, effortlessly imparts a Swiss watch with a resplendent British retro temperament.

Driving this new Triumph is Breitling’s esteemed B01 in-house automatic chronograph movement. Notably, the vertical clutch mechanism of the movement is centrally positioned and directly linked to the central chronograph seconds wheel. This configuration ensures the stability of the central chronograph second hand during operation, delivering an outstanding button feel. The reset sensation is particularly noteworthy, characterized by its cleanliness, sharpness, and precision, devoid of any hint of sloppiness. Furthermore, the movement boasts Swiss Official Observatory certification, a commendable 70-hour power reserve, and a commitment to a 5-year warranty.

While the B01 movement featured in the new Toptime adopts a more straightforward approach in decorative polishing, lacking the intricate Geneva stripes seen in other B01 models, I am confident that Triumph owners, upon laying eyes on it, will instantly overlook the nuances of polishing. The Triumph logo emblazoned on the dial is likely to be the focal point, overshadowing any concerns about decorative details. Remarkably, the price of the new Triumph mirrors that of the other five steel-cased Toptime models, priced at 55,800 for the leather strap version and 58,800 for the metal bracelet model. This not only represents a fraction of the cost of the Triumph Speed Twin 1200 but, more importantly, positions itself as the sole model perfectly tailored to complement the Triumph car in China.
